i just received a lovely email from Violette, who has knit her interpretation of Poppy from my book, Yarnplay. i think she did a really lovely job. she describes her process on her blog. this is definitely the design that i am most proud of, as it allows each knitter to create her own special version. it seems like a lifetime ago that i wrote this book! it was an exciting opportunity and a very stressful process. it came about when the knitting frenzy was at it's peak and just about every publisher seemed eager to push out as many books as they could, as fast as they could. it's no way to create a book. if i had known then what i know now, i would have done things very differently. when i was working on that book, i felt like i was designing in a void and lacked the support that i needed to help me shape it properly. in a way, i found it far more exciting when i was teaching. i miss my early teaching days at Rosie's Yarn Cellar. it was a great training ground. as well as teaching, i learned everything that i know about knitting in that little shop. ah, well. you live and you learn. at any rate, it truly was an amazing opportunity! who knows what's next?
Poppy is one of my favs from the book at well (although my version of the Mod on Mod continues to, amazingly (!), get hearted).
But now that you do know what you know, why not publish the book you want?
